Gervaise's great rival in L'Assommoir. She and Gervaise fight spectacularly in the laundry at the novel's opening, over Lantier. She later marries a policeman, insinuates herself back into Gervaise's life as a friend, and ultimately takes over Gervaise's laundry shop when Gervaise loses it to debt.
